SUMMARY:Framework for Scalable Intra-Node Collective Operations Using Shar
 ed Memory
DESCRIPTION:Surabhi Jain, Rashid Kaleem, Marc Gamell Balmana, Akhil Langer
, Dmitry Durnov, Alexander Sannikov, and Maria Garzaran (Intel Corporation
)\n\nCollective operations are used in MPI programs to express common comm
unication patterns, collective computations, or synchronizations. In many
collectives, such as barrier or allreduce, the intra-node component of the
collective is in the critical path, as the inter-node communication canno
t start until the intra-node component has been executed. Thus, with incre
asing number of core counts in each node, intra-node optimizations that le
verage the intra-node shared memory become increasingly important.\n\nIn t
his paper, we focus on the performance benefit of optimizing intra-node co
llectives using shared memory. We optimize several collectives using the p
rimitives in broadcast and reduce as building blocks for other collectives
. A comparison of our implementation on top of MPICH shows significant per
formance speedups with respect to the original MPICH implementation, MVAPI
CH, and OpenMPI, among others.\n\nTag: Architectures, MPI, Networks, Perfo
