SUMMARY:libIS: A Lightweight Library for Flexible In Transit Visualization
DESCRIPTION:Will Usher (SCI Insitute, University of Utah; Intel Corporatio
n); Silvio Rizzi (Argonne National Laboratory); Ingo Wald and Jefferson Am
stutz (Intel Corporation); Joe Insley, Venkatram Vishwanath, Nicola Ferrie
r, and Michael E. Papka (Argonne National Laboratory); and Valerio Pascucc
i (University of Utah)\n\nAs simulations grow in scale, the need for in si
tu analysis methods to handle the large data produced grows correspondingl
 y. One desirable approach to in situ visualization is in transit visualiza
tion. By decoupling the simulation and visualization code, in transit app
roaches alleviate common difficulties with regard to the scalability of th
e analysis, ease of integration, usability, and impact on the simulation.
We present libIS, a lightweight, flexible library which lowers the bar fo
r using in transit visualization. Our library works on the concept of abs
tract regions of space containing data, which are transferred from the sim
ulation to the visualization clients using a client-server model. We also
provide a SENSEI analysis adaptor, which allows for transparent deployment
of in transit visualization. We demonstrate the flexibility of our appro
ach on batch analysis and interactive visualization use cases on different
HPC resources.\n\nTag: Data Analytics, Data Management, Visualization\n\n
