SUMMARY:Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computing Architectures
DESCRIPTION:Martin Suchara and Yuri Alexeev (Argonne National Laboratory),
Frederic Chong (University of Chicago), Hal Finkel (Argonne National Labo
ratory), Henry Hoffmann (University of Chicago), Jeffrey Larson and James
Osborn (Argonne National Laboratory), and Graeme Smith (University of Colo
rado)\n\nWe describe how classical supercomputing can aid unreliable quant
um processors of intermediate size to solve large problem instances reliab
ly. We advocate using a hybrid quantum-classical architecture where larger
quantum circuits are broken into smaller sub-circuits that are evaluated
separately, either using a quantum processor or a quantum simulator runnin
g on a classical supercomputer. Circuit compilation techniques that deter
mine which qubits are simulated classically will greatly impact the system
performance as well as provide a tradeoff between circuit reliability and
runtime.\n\nTag: Architectures, Heterogeneous Systems, Quantum Computing\
