SUMMARY:Dynamic Load Balancing of Plasma and Flow Simulations
DESCRIPTION:Gerrett Diamond and Cameron W. Smith (Rensselaer Polytechnic I
nstitute), Eisung Yoon (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology
 ), and Mark S. Shephard (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute)\n\nExtracting p
erformance from simulations with complex information dependencies\n on ma
ssively parallel computers requires the computational work to be evenly\n
distributed across the processing resources while maintaining low\n comm
unication costs.\n Plasma simulations using a particle-in-cell method and
computational fluid\n dynamics using unstructured mesh-based finite elem
ent and volume\n methods present three distinct distribution requirements
.\n To meet these needs, we present EnGPar's diffusive partition improvem
ent\n method.\n An initial demonstration of EnGPar's particle distributi
on improvement is\n provided along with fluid dynamics mesh partition imp
rovement results on up to\n 512Ki processes on an IBM BlueGene/Q.\n\nTag:
Algorithms, Heterogeneous Systems, Resiliency\n\nRegistration Category: W
orkshop Reg Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Vassil Alexandrov (Hartree Centre, STF
C); Jack Dongarra (University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL)); Christian Engelmann (Oak Ridge National Laboratory (OR
NL)); and Al Geist (Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL))\n\n
