SUMMARY:Introduction - Innovating the Network for Data Intensive Science (
 INDIS)
DESCRIPTION:Paola Grosso (University of Amsterdam), Mary Hester (SURFnet),
Ilya Baldin (Renaissance Computing Institute (RenCI)), and Michelle Zhu (
Montclair State University)\n\nWide area networks are now an integral and
essential part of this data-driven supercomputing ecosystem connecting inf
ormation sources, data stores, processing, simulation, visualization and u
ser communities together. Networks for data-intensive science have more e
xtreme requirements than general-purpose networks. These requirements not
only closely impact the design of processor interconnects in supercompute
rs and cluster computers, but they also impact campus networks, regional n
etworks and national backbone networks. This workshop brings together the
network researchers and innovators to present challenges and novel ideas t
hat stretch network research and SC’s own innovative network, SCinet. We i
nvite papers that propose new and novel techniques to present solutions fo
r meeting these networking needs; and developments that are essential in t
he information systems infrastructure for the scientific discovery process
