SUMMARY:The Movement toward HPC Inclusivity: Achieving On-Demand Accessibi
lity of High Performance Computing (HPC) through Ephemeral Projects Utiliz
 ing the Alces Gridware Project
DESCRIPTION:Cristin Merritt and Wil Mayers (Alces Flight Limited)\n\nThis
presentation covers off the adoption of public cloud over the past two yea
rs. Using five public case studies, we will discuss how moving into cloud
is not an 'all or nothing' option and demonstrate how adding cloud to an
HPC solution invites in more opportunities for HPC to grow. But jumping i
nto cloud isn't always an easy! Our presentation will note key difference
s between hardware and cloud, how those differences play out in the real w
orld, and how open source options are starting to tie these platforms toge
ther. \n\nSpecial thanks to Across the Cloud, Institute of Cancer Researc
h, Sterling Geo, RSE Sheffield, University of Liverpool and Amazon Web Ser
vices for supporting this research.\n\nTag: Diversity, Education, Hot Topi
cs\n\nRegistration Category: Workshop Reg Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Toni Col
lis (Women in High Performance Computing); Weronika Filinger (Edinburgh Pa
rallel Computing Centre (EPCC); University of Edinburgh, Scotland); and Mi
 sbah Mubarak (Amazon Web Services)\n\n
