SUMMARY:Building a Low Budget Cluster Through Hardware Reuse

 llege)\n\nExploring parallel programming at the undergraduate level is dif
 ficult due to the limited availability of hardware exposing sufficient par
 allelism. While increasing core counts in consumer hardware is helping to 
 address this, core counts are still low, and system noise from desktop ope
 rating systems and background processes make performance measurement on st
 udent owned systems less than ideal. For short duration classes, the time 
 needed on production clusters to establish student accounts and queue wait
 s per job submission are significant barriers to use. This poster discusse
 s MCSCN, a small educational cluster, built using effectively free hardwar
