SUMMARY:TACC's Cloud Deployer: Automating the Management of Distributed So
 ftware Systems
DESCRIPTION:Joe Stubbs, Steve Terry, Marjo Poindexter, and Julia Looney (U
niversity of Texas)\n\nThe Cloud and Interactive Computing (CIC) Group at
the Texas Advanced Computing Center develops, deploys and administers a gr
owing catalog of cloud-based, distributed software systems for national-sc
ale cyberinfrastructure projects. Additionally, these systems are being de
ployed off-site at prominent partner institutions such as the University o
f Hawai'i Manoa and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). To automate ope
rations, both internally and at partner sites, the CIC group has developed
the TACC Cloud Deployer, a command line tool and software system combinin
g Docker, Ansible and custom Python code. Initially released in March of 2
016, CIC recently completed design and initial development for Deployer “V
2” based on a number of lessons learned over the prior two years. In this
paper, we describe the evolution of TACC’s Cloud Deployer, including the a
rchitecture and major design decisions that went into its most recent inca
rnation.\n\nTag: Build Systems, Clouds and Distributed Computing, Data Ana
