SUMMARY:The Age of Data - Visualizing the Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Chris Johnson (University of Utah)\n\nWe live in the Age of Da
ta. 90% of all data in the world has been created in the past two years a
t a rate of exabytes per day. New data is growing exponentially in every w
ay: structured, unstructured, quantitative, qualitative, spatial, temporal
. One of our greatest scientific challenges is to effectively understand a
nd make use of the vast amount of data being produced. Visual data analysi
s will be among our most important tools to understand such large-scale co
mplex data. Visualization is useful for detecting patterns, assessing situ
ations, and prioritizing tasks. Visualization facilitates the reasoning p
rocess by supporting the human capacity to perceive, understand, and reaso
n about complex large-scale data and enables researchers to derive knowled
ge from data. In this talk, I will present state-of-the-art visual analys
is techniques, insights and examples of how visualization can enable under
standing in the Age of Data.\n\nRegistration Category: Tech Program Reg Pa
ss, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nSession Chair: Elizabeth Jessup (University of Co
 lorado)\n\n
