SUMMARY:Containers, Collaboration, and Community: Hands-On Building a Data
Science Environment for Users and Admins
DESCRIPTION:Rion Dooley (University of Texas), Steve Brandt (Louisiana Sta
te University), Zebula Sampedro (University of Colorado), Kathryn Traxler
(Louisiana State University), and Aaron Holt (University of Colorado)\n\nI
n this tutorial we combine best practices and lessons learned in evolving
traditional HPC data centers at TACC, CU, and LSU into more integrated dat
a science environments. In the first session, participants will learn abou
t best practices in data science and software engineering and apply them w
hile containerizing and scaling an MPI application using multiple containe
r technologies across clouds, clusters, and a sandbox environment we will
provide. They will then leverage continuous integration and delivery to in
crease the portability, visibility, and availability of their individual a
pplication codes. The first session will conclude with participants learni
ng how the same approaches can be used by sysadmins to improve update and
release velocities of their entire application catalogs while better balan
cing security and regression support concerns.\n\nIn the second session, p
articipants will learn how to leverage automation and cloud services to be
tter handle version and metadata management. From there, they will customi
ze their own data science environment and gain hands-on experience using c
loud services and the Agave Platform by extending their environment to pub
lish and share applications, manage data, orchestrate simulations across b
oth HPC and cloud resources, capture provenance information, and foster co
llaboration.\n\nTag: Clouds and Distributed Computing, Data Analytics, Dat
a Management, System Administration, Tools, Workflows\n\nRegistration Cate
