SUMMARY:Convergence between HPC and Big Data: The Day After Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:Bilel Hadri (King Abdullah University of Science and Technolog
y), Sadaf Alam (Swiss National Supercomputing Centre), Katie Antypas (Lawr
ence Berkeley National Laboratory), David Bader (Georgia Institute of Tech
nology), Dan Reed (University of Iowa), and Rio Yokota (Tokyo Institute of
Technology)\n\nThe relationship between HPC and Big-Data Analytics (BDA)
is a recurring theme in the community. There is no doubt that the converge
nce between the third and fourth paradigms is on the march. The multiple c
ombinations of various techniques from both ends, ranging from virtualizat
ion, containerization, and cloud to help researchers in their simulations,
represent only an aspect of it. As HPC and BDA become increasingly ubiqu
itous and intertwined, this synergism will deliver opportunities and chall
enges that neither disciplines can produce alone. \n\nJoin the expert pane
lists, to learn from their experiences and discuss with them on:\n\n -- Wh
at are the challenges and the opportunities that the community will face o
ut of this synergistic relationship?\n\n -- Will users need to make change
s to their practices to use upcoming modern resources to solve their workf
low more efficiently? \n\n -- How to develop sustainable competencies arou
nd implementing and managing new technologies to support diverse workloads
