SUMMARY:Interactivity in HPC
DESCRIPTION:Peter Messmer (Nvidia Corporation), John Stone (University of
Illinois), Albert Reuther (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Michael
Ringenburg (Cray Inc), and Sadaf Alam (Swiss National Supercomputing Cent
re)\n\nInteractive exploration of data, preparation and debugging of large
-scale scientific simulations, in-situ visualization, and application stee
ring are compelling scenarios for exploratory science, design optimization
s, and signal processing. However, various technical, organizational and s
ociological challenges must be overcome to make these interactive workflow
s mainstream in HPC centers: What problem domains and workflows can benefi
t most from interactivity? How can we simplify the tool-chain? How can cen
ters support highly interactive workflows? The goal of this BoF is bring
together domain scientists, tool developers, and HPC center administrator
s to identify the scientific impact and technical challenges of highly int
eractive access to HPC resources.\n\nTag: State of the Practice\n\nRegistr
