Exhibitor Description
Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the national supercomputing centre in Spain. We specialise in high performance computing (HPC) and manage MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, located in the Torre Girona chapel. MareNostrum's calculation capacity is distributed in two completely different blocks: a general-purpose block and an emerging technologies block: The general-purpose block has 48 racks with 3,456 nodes. Each node has two Intel Xeon Platinum chips, each with 24 processors, amounting to a total of 165,888 processors and a main memory of 390 Terabytes. The second element of MareNostrum 4 is formed of clusters of three different emerging technologies The brand-new Barcelona Supercomputing Center’s POWER9 cluster has emerged as the most "green" machine in Europe, according to the Green500 ranking (in June), which scores the world's fastest supercomputers for its energy efficiency. In the Green500 ranking, MareNostrum 4 POWER9 cluster, which is a block mainly aimed at Artificial Intelligence that was launched at the end of May, has revealed itself capable of executing 11.865 x 109 floating point operations per watt of consumed energy (11,865 Gigaflops / Watt). This energy efficiency places it at number 9 on the Green500, after six Japanese supercomputers and two North American computers. The general-purpose block of MareNostrum 4 has been placed at position 41.
